Congratulations to Derek from the Chester Returneeship for winning April’s Learner of the Month.

Derek came in on the first day and wanted to work on research. I gave him a laptop and told him the password; in return I got a totally panicked look… he didn’t even know how to switch a laptop on…

He stayed with us through the day, learning how to log on, how to open browsers etc and was so enthusiastic and positive and took in everything we tried to teach him. On the second day of the classroom course, he came in absolutely beaming and told us his daughter had left her laptop open and he’d managed to open word and leave her a message on her screen. She was over the moon and couldn’t believe how much progress he’d made in two days! He continued to work so hard through-out the course, even sending his work coach an email on his own! This from some-one who didn’t know how to open a laptop a few days before. He’s been an asset to his team, helping other learners where he could and even did a video for twitter as he was so excited about learning how to send an email.

His progress has been amazing, if anyone deserves some credit, he does.
